Hah, how very unsurprising.

I'm always amused to read the sticky "October 12, Metal Express Newsletter" post at the top of this very board... from 2007.
There are a whole bunch of other completely false promises, endless excuses, and pathetic advocates scattered around the board if anyone should care enough to bother looking.

To anyone still interested in pursuing Silent Death, don't bother wasting your time. ICE and everyone involved in this company are disinterested in this property, have absolutely no respect for a customer base, and completely incompetent.

Arming up for the venture into the Pangea system Night Hawks were  in short supply.  Whilst the Osprey is no match, it is SI's alternative:

Osprey

400T

Drive 11
DV 11
DR 4
PD 1-7(1)
Decoy 1
DC 1-4

Exposed Engines
Poor Structure

Quad Splatter Laser
Twin Meld Laser

41pts

It is not match for or replacement of the Night Hawk, with low shields and speed it has to rely on long ranged attacks before going in for the kill.

The Ranger is the SI's heavy gunboat, most comment on its reasonable price.  The Ranger was built with the intention to take down Betafortresses, many houses are not impressed, which the Ranger does quite well.  The modern gunboat has better screens this puts the future of the Ranger in question.  Some like the fact you can take a very average crew on the Ranger and it performs really well.

Sagitarian Class Gunboat

Ranger

Drive 11
DV 10
DR 4/3/3/1
PD 1-8 (6)
Decoy 3
DC 1-8

Exposed Engines
Poor Structure

Pilot – Emp Beam
Gunner A – Quad Autocannon (Ammo 7) F, FQL, FQR, R
Gunner B – Quad Autocannon (Ammo 7) F, FQL, FQR, R
Gunner C – Quad Autocannon (Ammo 7) F, FQL, FQR, R
Gunner D – Quad Autocannon (Ammo 7) F, FQL, FQR, R
Gunner E - Quad Pulse Lasers, F, FQL, FQR, R, ML20 360
Gunner C - Quad Pulse Lasers, F, FQR, RQR, R, ML20 360

3 MK 10 torps
4 MK 30 torps
4 MK 40 torps

265pts with VS Torps

2000T

The UNW are most eager to utilise this platform because it can easily mount 4 Tachyon Cannons.  However, it has met with resistance from the coalition who also see that the ACs can be replaced by 2 Quad Blast guns and 2 Sext Splatter guns and the tachyon Cannons could make it vulnerable to pirates wanting to steal the platform for a simple upgrade.

What ever its future the Ranger has a unique role, long range but quick for its size.  Critics have comment on the low defensive value but it is not unusual in a large vessel.

I prefer playing SD, but the setting is uninspiring at best, so that's the driving force to do a conversion. There's also the bling factor. Sorry, but in general, SD ships are butt-ugly, no wonder why it doesn't attract many new players.

The 1st-ed. designs looked like actual spacecraft; the current designs are just plain goofy. ("Nemesis" = 1st ed. _Betafortress_.)

I like 'em, although I heard the Nemesis referred to as a bus.

Just play SD with some small fighters.  And compare a similar game by using AT small fighters.  Then discuss what you preferred to play.  The BT universe has the bad 'Clans' and the SD one has the jeez, arrgh, sheeet the Brood!  Otherwise the 'fragmented' house system is common to both.

_AT_ uses "realistic" (vector-based) movement, and requires the additional math of figuring heat buildup; _SD_ uses "reactionless" (think _Star Wars_) movement, and combat is a simple matter of "did you hit; if so, how much damage did you do?". Apples and skyscrapers.

Were I to combine the two, I'd use _SD_'s movement, and _AT_'s combat and damage.
